Private cardiology fees and payments
Dr Alsanjari is a fee assured consultant cardiologist, which means he is approved by all the main health insurance companies (BUPA, AXA PPP, Aviva, Vitality Health, Cigna, Aetna, WPA). The fee structure for consultations, tests and treatment are therefore usually covered by the insurance company although there may be some shortfall due to insurance excess charges. It is important to check with your individual insurance policy to see what is covered.
If you are not insured (self-funding patients) Dr Alsanjari’s fees are:
Initial consultation £210
12 lead ECG – this is a resting trace of your heart rhythm usually required with an initial consultation £90 (including the hospital fee)
Total initial fee £300
If a patient has a recent ECG (within the last 2 weeks) then only a consultation fee is required. The ECG must be of good quality so it can be interpreted. A poor quality ECG cannot provide sufficient information and will need to be repeated.
Initial consultations are scheduled for 30 minutes but patients will have as much time as they need to discuss their symptoms. A consultation will involve a review of your symptoms, a clinical examination, and a 12 lead ECG. Further diagnostic tests may then be recommended along with a course of treatment if required.
FOR PATIENTS WHO ARE SELF FUNDING A GP REFERRAL LETTER IS NOT REQUIRED BUT MAY BE HELPFUL IN PROVIDING AN UP-TO-DATE MEDICAL HISTORY.
We are now offering video consultations.

Follow-up Consultation
A follow-up consultation is often required to go through various test results with patients, to review new symptoms or to review the progress of a treatment plan. Follow-up consultations are usually for 15-minute intervals but can be longer if required, or if you are a longterm patient coming for regular reviews then you may need more time.
Follow up consultation £150
Diagnostic cardiology test fees
Further diagnostic tests may be required. For insured patients, the fees for these tests are usually covered by the insurance policy. For non-insured self-funding patients Dr Alsanjari the prices below can be used as guidance, and will be finalised upon your enquiry based on the private hospital fees. Payment is required in advance for the consultation (and ECG if required) in order to book an appointment/test.
It is important to note that for all heart tests a consultation is usually required ie heart tests cannot be undertaken without a consultation to ensure the correct investigation is being performed to get to a diagnosis.

Echocardiogram
This is an ultrasound scan of the heart using a probe on the skin with some jelly. The test takes around 30 minutes and is often an essential test to check for heart function, leaking or narrowed heart valves, and the primary investigation for breathlessness. We have both male and female sonographers, so please let us know if you have a preference when you book.
Test Fee: £390

Exercise ECG
Also known as an exercise stress ECG or exercise tolerance test, this is used to determine your exercise capacity. It can give an indication if there are any major problems with the blood supply to the heart, and if you develop any symptoms with exercise then this test may be appropriate for you. It involves walking on a treadmill with gradual increase in incline and speed. You are monitored closely with continuous ECG, blood pressure and symptom monitoring.
Test Fee: £390

Ambulatory Blood Pressure monitoring
Some patients only have very high blood pressure as soon as they walk into a doctor’s office, and it is normal at other times. This is called white coat hypertension. This is a blood pressure cuff which is able to take repeated recordings of your blood pressure over a 24h period. It inflates, and deflates like a normal BP cuff recording each value. We can make a correct diagnosis of hypertension (or “white coat hypertension) and it is also a useful tool for monitoring your blood pressure periodically in the longterm.
Test Fee £210

Patch ECG monitoring
This is a continuous ECG monitor which uses a small patch stuck on the chest wall. The purpose is to detect heart rhythm problems, and is useful in patients who are experiencing palpitations and funny sensation/awareness of the heartbeat. It has no wires, and you can shower normally when the device is connected. Once the agreed period of monitoring has completed (maximum of 14 days), you can post back the device to our partner centre for analysis and will be contacted by us once the results are in.
Test Fee: £350-£600

CT coronary angiogram
Coming soon. The CT coronary angiogram is one of the available investigations for patients with chest pain. It is a CT scan of the heart and specifically the heart arteries. The test is able to determine if a patient’s chest pain is due to narrowing of the heart arteries. The CT scan is able to image the heart arteries and also provide a measurement called a ‘calcium score’ that is an indication of the cardiac risk associated with narrowings in the heart arteries. The test can also provide information on the other structures within the chest wall such as the lungs or spine. It is important to note that the CT coronary angiogram involves radiation and this test may not be suitable for all patients.

Standard ambulatory ECG
This is a continuous ECG monitor of your heart and involves attaching sticky electrode patches to your chest and abdomen with wires that connect to a small monitor the size of a small mobile phone. It is not water proof, but similar to the patch ECG
Depending on how frequent your symptoms occur you might need 24 hour, 48 hour, 72 hour or 5 day continuous ECG monitoring.

Cardiac MRI
Coming soon. This test is an MRI scan of your heart and is able to look at a wide range of cardiac conditions. This can include, congenital and inherited heart diseases such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or dilated cardiomyopathy; heart valve disease, tumours and coronary heart disease.
Test Fee: Price on enquiry

Coronary angiography
This is an invasive investigation when there is a strong suspicion that you may have narrowed coronary arteries. Typically, you will have complained of chest pains to have this test recommended, but there may be other reasons. It is the gold standard test for looking at the coronary artery anatomy, and can be coupled with pressure measurements within the heart arteries to determine whether any narrowings are flow limiting. These can often be treated symptomatically with medications, or mechanically by opening the artery with balloons and stenting (see below).
Test Fee: Price on enquiry

Implantable loop recorder
This is a diagnostic device which is implanted/injected under the skin and is slightly larger than a paper clip. The purpose is to record abnormal heart rhythms which are occurring sporadically, and not regularly enough to be picked up by normal ambulatory ECG or patch monitoring. It has a battery life of 3 years, so the underlying cause of palpitations, dizziness or loss of conscious episodes is sure to be found during this period.
